Our aim is to inspire others to engage with our marine environment through citizen science, education, research and awareness-raising.
What we are about
We want to inspire local people and visitors to become stewards of our greatest natural resource in order to create healthier seas and coastal communities now and in the future. We hope to create action through education and provide evidence for conservation through engaging people in data collection, recording and practical action.
By bringing people to the sea we will enhance the understanding and engagement of our maritime heritage and culture whilst giving them the tools to care for and protect the wildlife and environment within it.
We now have our own Tee Mill!
Our products are made from organic cotton and printed in the UK in a renewable energy powered factory.

The Research & Education Vessel ‘Sea Bird’ is a beautiful wooden hulled traditionally built ‘Ringnetter’ type vessel. Descended from the legendary sailing drifters of the late nineteenth century, she is a roomy and powerfully built vessel of 40 tons displacement and 17 metres overall length. Originally launched in 1969 from the slipways of her Scottish, Weatherhead and Blackie of Port Seaton, she worked through all seasons as a Herring Ringnetter and as a general-purpose fishing vessel up until late 2018.

We are passionate about education. Through experiences on board we find that people are inspired to learn, not only about the vessel but the marine environment we sail in. Our vessel is also available to hire as a venue for activities on the pontoon. Contact us to arrange a date or find out more!
Marine Science lab/ classroom – without even leaving the pontoon we can fish for plankton, identify seaweed and explore environmental issues on board.
